Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida is a gorgeous community located in Broward County. It was developed in 1924 when investors purchased land with the specific plan of starting a beachside community. It was incorporated in 1927, but in 1933 the charter was revoked. However, town leadership tried again, and Lauderdale-by-the-Sea was reincorporated in 1947. In order to retain its small-town charm and assure continued views of the ocean, the city limited building heights in 1973 and avoid the building of high-rise condos. The town began to grow with the annexation of the Intracoastal Beach area north of town. The current estimated population is 6,500 residents.
The beachfront Lauderdale-by-the-Sea has much to offer in its two-mile-long strip. The Beach Pavilion was built by the community as a place of rest for both locals and tourist. With seats facing the beach, it is a great place to relax before continuing along the shore. As you venture on, you’ll find small parks, shops, restaurants, and hotels. You’ll also enjoy the experience of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Food Tours. The tour includes five tastings at a leisurely pace, ending in a retail environment where you can visit local artists and small businesses and enjoy an after-dinner drink if you choose. There are so many options to enjoy on the beautiful beach of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, from sidewalk cafes to live music events and dance classes. For those who love water activities, there are opportunities to dive and go snorkeling. You can also rent bikes to ride along the town, or take a free bus and enjoy the views of land and sea. Further options are available by taking a bus or trolley to Fort Lauderdale’s beaches and shopping malls.
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea real estate is a combination of ranch-style single-family homes and Tuscan multi-level homes. You'll also find Lauderdale-by-the-Sea townhomes and condos. Because of the building height regulations, the condos are tall enough for great views of the beach and ocean, but not so tall as to block views from other locations. For a small town, the job market is good, with jobs for teens and young adults available, as well as for seniors not quite ready to quit working. It is also close enough to Fort Lauderdale for commuting. You will find stores for everyday needs, and a hospital only a mile away. With the beauty of the town and the quality of life it offers, this is a must consider destination for homebuyers searching in South Florida.
