Miramar, Florida is in Broward County. The original property was purchased in 1953 by A.L. Mailman and homes of concrete with flat roofs were built in order to offer inexpensive homes to buyers. The homes sold quickly, and in 1955 the city was incorporated. The city planners put into place the philosophy of planned and controlled growth. A land use plan was instituted in 1972 to ensure orderly development in any further growth. Miramar leadership today continues with preserving the character of this lovely city through enhancing the quality of life. They also strive to attract new development with a goal to enrich the area and not detract from either its culture or its family-oriented reputation. The current population is around 139,000 residents.
